Cheesemans' Ecology Safaris

About the Region

Africa is the place to see the “Big Five” - lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino - but there is so much more. With the equator slicing through its middle, Great Rift Valley lowlands transitioning into volcanic mountains, and enormous coastline, Africa is the most diverse continent on Earth. Our tours allow you to discover why an African safari is at the top of everyone’s bucket list.

Tanzania and Kenya

Doug and Gail Cheeseman have been leading safaris to Tanzania and Kenya since 1978. They know and love it well. With just four people in each of the nine-seater, pop-top Landcruisers, you will have plenty of space and flexibility for viewing and photographing wildlife in the best game areas such as Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Ndutu, Tarangire, Masai Mara and the Mara Triangle, Nakuru, and Samburu. The "big five" are found here - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Our goal is to spend the maximum time in the field, starting early and ending late, often taking picnic lunches to avoid the long noon-time drive back to the lodge. Lots of choices will suit your varied interests, such as walks in bird-rich areas or a cultural photo session in a local village. Our Tanzanian and Kenyan resident guides, who have led many safaris with Doug and Gail, will assure the best possible wildlife experiences in this truly incredible region!

Seek out an impressive wealth of wildlife in Moremi, Savuti, and Chobe National Parks in Botswana and South Luangwa in Zambia. Our amazing guides, Grant Reed in Botswana and Edward Selfe in Zambia, both experts on Southern African mammals, birds, and reptiles, know where to find Leopards and other cats. Visit the spectacular Victoria Falls - the widest curtain of water in the world. Travel to Mfuwe in South Luangwa National Park – Zambia's best game area, where night drives are allowed! Each safari member will have a window seat in a Landcruiser, and will experience mobile camping in Botswana, a luxurious lodge close to Victoria Falls, and four nights in permanent safari tents overlooking the Luangwa River in Zambia.

Immerse yourself in the world of Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees in Uganda - a landlocked country in East Africa that lies in a cradle of mountains. The country encompasses diverse landscapes of plains, mountains, many large lakes and rivers with 60 protected areas including ten national parks. Its equatorial climate provides plentiful sunshine, moderated by the relatively high altitude of most areas of the country. Uganda has transformed itself from a country with a troubled past to one of relative stability and prosperity making it the perfect place to observe the daily lives of some of our nearest relatives.
