M/V Ushuaia in Antarctica
The M/V Ushuaia

General Information

Originally built for the United States agency NOAA (National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration), the M/V Ushuaia has been refurbished to accommodate a maximum of 75 passengers in comfortable twin cabins and suites. The ice-strengthened polar vessel Ushuaia is well appointed and provides ample deck space and an open bridge policy. The full complement of inflatable landing craft ensures superb landings and wildlife viewing opportunities on the otherwise inaccessible coastline. The Ushuaia will carry sufficient landing craft (mostly mark V zodiacs with clean-burning 4-stroke engines) to have all passengers in zodiacs at once, allowing fast access to landings - more time ashore!

All cabins include a desk and storage space. Public areas feature a large dining room that can accommodate all participants in one sitting, an observation lounge and bar, a conference room with modern multimedia equipment, a well-stocked library, a wet gear room and a small infirmary. The Ushuaia is an excellent expedition vessel, sufficient, safe and comfortable but not fancy. Our chefs prepare quality cuisine and the bar is well-stocked with spirits and Chilean wines. The Ushuaia is staffed with a Chilean and Argentinean crew. Our expert captain, officers and crew are highly experienced in Antarctic navigation and have a great love of nature. We provide a specialist team of international expedition leaders and lecturers, all extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, helpful and dedicated to the protection of the environment. A "chit" system will operate for onboard payments, settled at the voyage's end.

Laundry service: Excellent 48 hour laundry service is available for a fee. No coin operated machines are available.

Electrical Current and Outlets

110 volts, with some 220 volt outlets available in common areas. The electrical outlet sockets are the standard US style three prong units. If you are coming from a country with a different system, bring a suitable adapter.
